JOB: Director of Library and Information Services, California Academy of Science, San Francisco

The Director of Library and Information Services develops and implements the strategic vision for a 21st century research museum and life sciences library. The Director develops and fosters collaborative partnerships within the Academy and within the life sciences library and information service community. The Director applies for externally funded grants to develop and expand library resources and provides ongoing administrative and strategic leadership to the Library and Information Services Department.

Founded in 1853, the Academy Library is devoted to natural history and the natural sciences. Areas of specialization include Systematics and Taxonomy, Evolutionary Biology, Biodiversity, Biogeography, Local and Regional Natural Sciences, and Natural History. The Library’s varied collections include books, journals (in print and online), archives and manuscripts, photographs, slides, digital images, maps, and other media.

The ideal candidate has 10 + years of broad-based and progressively responsible experience in academic or scientific research institution libraries, including a minimum of five years at senior management level.
