BayNet VP Debbie Abilock will give a ticketed talk, “A Schoolwide Lens on Evaluation: Who Knows What?” at the 2011 Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development conference (a premiere education conference for administrators and curricular leaders) in San Francisco, Sunday, March 27 at 8:30 a.m.
Young people need evaluation skills in a participatory digital world. Yet, they ditch our checklists and forget our minilessons in the dizzying stew of click-and-go wikified information. Well-publicized examples of doctored data and journalistic fabrications remind us that “truth” is complicated. Who is an authority when everyone is an author? How do culture and context affect evaluation? Can technology show us whom to trust? This session will present strategies for students (and teachers) to use both in school and outside of it.
