The California Academy of Sciences offers an exciting opportunity for a Head Librarian. Reporting to the Chief of Science and Sustainability, the Head Librarian is responsible for strategic planning and management of the Academy Library, including its programs, staff and assets. The Head Librarian will participate and assist in Academy-wide programs of outreach and public engagement on issues of scientific research and literacy, and should be familiar with emerging technologies in library service, highly motivated with excellent interpersonal skills, and have the ability to work with a diverse patron group including scientists, visiting scholars, Academy staff, students, and potential donors. The Head Librarian will be responsible for management of library programs, staff, and budgets.
The ideal candidate has an MLS/MLIS degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association, five years of broad-based and progressively responsible experience in an academic or scientific research library, a minimum of 5 years managing library or archives professionals or paraprofessionals and subject expertise in areas such as biology, ecology or environmental science.
