Position and Duties
The Volunteer Program for the San José Public Library is coordinated by a two person team including the Volunteer Services Analyst and Volunteer Coordinator. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for assisting with managing the system wide volunteer program, supporting staff who work with volunteers at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library and twenty-two branch libraries throughout the city of San José, and working directly with volunteers.
The selected candidate will assist with developing system wide volunteer programs; preparing training materials and training volunteers and staff; planning and implementing volunteer recognition activities; promotional campaigns to increase the number of library volunteers; representing the Library at community events related to volunteerism; responding to public inquiries about volunteer opportunities (both verbally and in writing); recruiting, interviewing, and training potential volunteers; maintaining records and compiling data on the volunteer program; and coordinating volunteers for special events. The Volunteer Coordinator will use online recruitment tools, the City’s online volunteer management software, and train and support staff in using these tools. The selected candidate will assist with the volunteer services website and maintaining internal online resources for staff. Other related duties may also be performed and areas of assigned responsibility may vary based on the needs of the unit. Due to the nature of this position, occasional evening and weekend hours will be required.
1. Education: Successful completion of high school, General Education Development (G.E.D.) Certificate or California Proficiency Certificate.
2. Experience: One (1) year experience in managing a volunteer program.
