UC Davis Mabie Law Library seeks a forward-thinking, motivated, service-oriented professional to join our team as a Collections and Metadata Librarian.
This position, an Assistant or Associate Librarian, oversees the department responsible for library resource processing and operations. In addition to supervisory responsibilities, the position participates in collection management and works collaboratively with other librarians on resource allocations. The position serves on library committees, and participates in discussions regarding library programs, services, operations, facilities and procedures. The position reports to the Library Director.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Collections and Metadata Librarian oversees several functional areas of library services: Sierra oversight and record quality control, resource inventory, preservation and circulation control, interlibrary loan, and cataloging, with some supervisory responsibilities. The position monitors, analyzes, and develops efficient and effective workflows; communicates with other library partners, and vendors; and has overall responsibility for data and statistics for the unit.
The position facilitates patron access to library resources through the Sierra library system. This includes the creation, maintenance, and enhancement of metadata across multiple discovery platforms and the library’s Sierra system and UC discovery platform, and delivery of library resources to patrons. The position manages catalog data and cataloging services; creates, maintains, and enhances access to electronic resources; and oversees the acquisitions budget expenditures for all library resources, both print and electronic and serial subscriptions.
The position contributes to overall library operations by participating in library unit meetings, strategic planning, annual reports, development of policies, procedures and practices that relate to the purchasing, processing and receiving of library resources. The librarian keeps abreast of current standards and emerging technologies to effectively manage the unit and to provide continuous support and patron assistance in accessing the library’s resources.
Applicants should have the capacity to work in a dynamic library environment, responding to shifting needs and priorities of library users, and a willingness to be flexible with assignments. They should be able to work collaboratively and creatively with a diverse group of individuals and departments within and beyond the law school.
