JOB: Library Literacy Assistant, Contra Costa County Library, Pleasant Hill

The Contra Costa County Library is recruiting to fill one permanent part-time (20 hours per week) vacancy for Library Literacy Assistant. This position splits time between Pleasant Hill and Antioch. The incumbent in this position will assist with volunteer recruitment, training and support activities, providing program information, and promoting library literacy programs through various media. The Library Literacy Assistant is responsible for recruiting and training volunteers, conducting student in-take interviews, recommending appropriate methods and materials to tutors, maintaining records and gathering data, assisting with special events including Families for Literacy, contributing to newsletters, overseeing the library literacy lab, and representing library literacy programs at meetings.
The individual appointed to this position must possess the ability to relate positively with various multi-cultural communities; plan, organize, and work independently; communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; and establish harmonious working relationships with staff, volunteers, community groups and representatives. Teaching experience is highly desirable. Appointee must be available to work at least one night a week and occasional Saturday shifts.
Typical Tasks
• Assist with student and tutor recruitment, training and support activities

• Oversee the literacy computer lab
