The Sausalito Library is seeking a full-time librarian to work independently, creatively, and with a clear vision as the library’s expert on providing services to children and young adults. The person hired into this position will also work shifts on the library’s reference desk serving a general population.
THE COMMUNITY AND CITY GOVERNMENT: Sausalito is a waterfront city of 7,400 residents. Its historical buildings, wooded hillsides, and sweeping views combine to make Sausalito a community of great charm and natural beauty. Sausalito is a General Law City incorporated in 1893 and has a City Council/City Manager form of government. The City provides a full range of services including Administration, Finance, Police, Public Works, Library, Parks and Recreation, and Community Development.
THE SAUSALITO LIBRARY: The 6,250 square-foot Sausalito Library is located inside Sausalito City Hall at 420 Litho Street. The library is open 7 days per week for a total of 64 hours. Annual circulation is approximately 135,000 items, and annual walk-in attendance is over 120,000. The Sausalito Library is a member of the MARINet consortium of public and academic libraries in Marin County.
Spaces inside the Sausalito Library for children and young adults include a dedicated children’s room and a young adult alcove. Program offerings include story times, craft programs, reading groups, and an annual summer reading program. The library has a single reference desk that serves patrons of all ages.
In addition to the Librarian I – Children’s and Young Adult Librarian position, the library’s full-time staff consists of a City Librarian, a Librarian II – Assistant City Librarian, a Senior Library Assistant, and a Library Assistant II.
