The Librarian (Supervising) plans, organizes and supervises a large library section or a small library branch with several professional librarians and technical support staff. They are responsibile for the training and supervision of staff; scheduling; providing professional and outreach services directly to the public; making budget recommendations and monitoring expenditures; representing the library in the community; assisting in policy formulation and implementation; and collection development.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working with the public in a diverse community; seeks to create a welcoming environment in the library; is confident with public speaking and presentations; has familiarity with library services, materials, and trends; is familiar with the requirements for supervising a variety of different types of people and services including writing performance evaluations, progressive discipline, and developing employee skills; and is flexible and resilient, and able to change service models as the needs of the community change.
The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill full-time, part-time, limited-term or extra-help positions as vacancies occur or the need arises.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Three years of professional library services experience with supervisory training and experience.
AND
Possession of a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an accredited college or university is required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver’s license may be required.
