Yolo County Library is hiring for a part-time, extra-help Library Assistant fluent in Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese to provide bilingual copy cataloging and general support. The Library Assistant may also participate in materials selection in these languages, and provide customer service to library patrons at the Yolo County Library branches.
Under the direction of the Catalog Librarian, the Library Assistant will search OCLC to find the corresponding record for a book, learn to choose the most appropriate record to download matching title, publisher, pagination, and publication date to find the correct record.

This is an extra-help, non-benefited and non-represented position of Yolo County. Selected candidates must complete a County pre-employment including drug screen and live scan as part of the hiring process.
The following duties are typical of those performed by employees in this classification; however, employees may perform other related duties.

• Process new books and additions to the library collections on the computer.
• Provide input into the selection of materials.
• Conduct circulation activities including checking library materials in and out, registering and issuing cards, explaining county library circulation policies and procedures.
• Prepares books and other materials for circulation.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education: Graduation from high school or possession of G.E.D. certificate.

License: Some positions in this classification may require incumbents to possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license, Class C or higher, to carry out job-related duties. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical or mental disability may request a reasonable accommodation.

General Knowledge of: basic library tools, methods, and procedures; correct English usage and spelling; library functions and services.

Ability to: organize work assignments; follow written and oral instructions; communicate effectively with a wide variety of people of all ages both orally and in writing; establish and maintain cooperative, courteous, and effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work; work a flexible and changing schedule, including evening and weekends and evenings; prioritize tasks and exercise sound judgment.
