The County of Yolo is recruiting to fill one regular, part-time (0.5 FTE) position in the class of Library Assistant at the Yolo County Archives and Records Center, part of the Yolo County Library System. The successful candidate will be someone who enjoys or has experience with preserving and making historical documents accessible, records management, customer service, and administrative duties. The selected candidate will be hired at the Library Assistant I or Library Assistant II level depending on their background and experience and at the discretion of the appointing authority. The following full-time salary range for each classification level will be pro-rated to part-time compensation:
Library Assistant I: $35,432 – $43,068 AnnuallyLibrary Assistant II: $39,480 – $47,988 Annually
The ideal candidate will be a community-oriented professional who has an interest in records management, historical preservation and access, outreach, and archival practices. They must also have strong organizational, time-management, and communication skills with a high level of attention to detail. Additionally, the ideal candidate would have experience with library and archival databases and digitization technology. Lastly, the Library Assistant must be able to lift 30 pounds and be comfortable going up and down ladders.

Under close supervision, the incumbent performs a variety of routine and repetitive library clerical work; and performs other related duties as required.
This is the entry level of the library paraprofessional series. Positions in this class are characterized by the performance of routine clerical duties requiring discretion and judgment in applying procedures and guidelines. Considerable public contact is involved in the explanation of library services and functions.

Essential Functions
The position provides support for the Yolo County Archives and Records Center by assisting with routine departmental tasks. Duties include the following:
- Assists with the pick-up and delivery of records to and from the Records Center.
- Participates in the destruction of appropriate records in accordance with legal retention schedules and destruction guidelines.
- Conducts research and locates documents and records.
- Receives, researches, and responds to requests for information and records requests.
- Verifies that all incoming records for storage and destruction are processed in accordance with established Records Center procedures.
- Receives and screens visitors and telephone calls.
- Provides information and handles issues that may require sensitivity, confidentiality, and the use of sound independent judgment.
- Maintains County records, including assigning location codes and file numbers to all retained documents and records and applies appropriate indexing criteria.
- Maintains and updates records management database and indexes to track and retrieve records.
- Maintains logs of received, retrieved, and returned records.
- Works with County departments and Archives and Records Center Coordinator to update and create records retention and disposition schedules.
- Answers phones, schedules research appointments, documents research requests received by phone and email, and processes payments for reproductions.
- Assists the Archives and Records Center Coordinator during public hours with the retrieval and re-shelving of requested archival materials.
- Participates in outreach, workshops, and public relations as needed with the Archives and Records Center Coordinator.
- Performs digitization, description, and processing of archival materials.
- Assists with coordinating volunteer schedules and work assignments.

Education: Graduation from high school or possession of G.E.D. certificate.
Knowledge of: basic library tools, methods, and procedures; correct English usage and spelling; Dewey decimal classifications system, Library of Congress subject headings, and library filing rules; library functions and services.
Ability to: organize work assignments; follow written and oral instructions; communicate effectively with a wide variety of people of all ages; perform repetitive and detailed tasks with accuracy; interpret and apply library rules and procedures; learn the library collection and provide routine informational assistance; analyze situations and take appropriate action; exercise judgment; work harmoniously and cooperatively with others; work a flexible and changing schedule, including evenings and weekends; use or quickly learn to use, online circulation systems, online catalog, databases and other computer applications; learn, use and apply library policies and procedures, vocabulary and materials.
