PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Athenian School seeks a library assistant with outstanding customer service skills and a flair for
visual design to promote our resources and services through marketing and outreach. This person may
promote outreach through social media, digital and analog displays, interactive newsletters, or other
creative means. With an awareness of contemporary literature, this person will join the library team in providing reading suggestions to teens and adults. They will also assist with developing and facilitating engaging programs for teens that promote collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking.
This person will manage general clerical duties to keep the library orderly and inviting, oversee
circulation, operate library management software, use databases, the online catalog, and other
information sources to answer basic reference questions from students, faculty and staff. This person will
guide the work of parent and student volunteers and supervise students throughout the day.


CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Successful candidates will demonstrate a clear commitment to professional growth, including in the areas of equity, inclusion, and social justice. They will be able to effectively multi-task with a high degree of independence and initiative in a busy library. They will be a good communicator and an effective problem solver with strong organizational skills, keen attention to detail and proficiency and comfort with Google Workspace. Coursework in library technology or library science and experience working with young adults in a school, academic, or public library are preferred.
