*Extra-Help- Not to exceed 960 hours in one fiscal year


We are seeking one (1) full-time Delivery Driver (benefitted position) and other part-time (20 hours week- benefitted position) and extra-help Delivery Drivers (non-benefitted positions) as needed. These positions will drive a delivery truck to pick up and deliver library materials throughout the County, and use an automated materials handling system to sort materials for delivery. Extra-Help positions work on-call as replacement for regular staff who are on vacation or ill. Applicants must provide DMV printout as attachment on application.


As early as 5:00 am and as late as 2:00 pm on assigned days

 TYPICAL TASKS include, but are not limited to:

  • Drives a box truck with lift gate and side ramp on a scheduled route, collecting and delivering library materials and supplies.
  • Performs daily routine maintenance checks on vehicle including oil, tires, and vehicle equipment; fills vehicle with fuel and maintains clean condition; takes vehicle to a service shop for regular servicing; keeps record of maintenance checks; notifies supervisor if any issues are identified during the vehicle inspection.
  • Loads and unloads book carts and crates; sorts books, library materials, equipment, mail, monies and other items to appropriate book cart, bin, or box.
  • Collects daily cash deposits and receipts from library branches and delivers to the Budget and Finance Office.


Education and Experience: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade and three (3) years of experience in supply, inventory, delivery, customer service, or clerical experience.  

Licenses and Certifications: Must possess and maintain a valid California Class C Driver License and a clean driving record.

Knowledge of:

  • Safe driving practices, vehicle operation, and basic maintenance.
  • Modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment applications.


Must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing an average of 35 pounds, but up to 65 pounds of weight by lifting and carrying, and up to 250 pounds of weight by pushing and pulling, with the aid of lifting/moving equipment (e.g. carts and hand trucks).  Incumbents must be able to “deadlift on a pivot” the rear lift gate (approximately 200 pounds) and side ramp (approximately 70 pounds) of the delivery vehicle.  Drive a large vehicle for extended periods of time.

SALARY:                              FULL-TIME & PART-TIME – $21.92/hour to $27.39/hour

                                                EXTRA-HELP- $21.92/hour to $23.03/hour (no benefits)

Vacation, sick leave, and holiday accruals are pro-rated for part-time employees. Certain insurance benefits are available only to full-time employees.

Vacation: Earns at the rate of 1 ¼ days per month, 3 weeks after the first year.

Sick leave: Twelve days per year, with unlimited accumulation.

Holidays: A combination of holidays and compensatory days equal to thirteen days per year.

Retirement: Membership in the statewide Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS). See CalPERS chart for retirement formulas. The Sonoma County Library does not participate in Social Security.

Health insurance: Group health insurance through CalPERS Health Insurance Program paid at 80% to 84% depending on position. Delta Dental and VSP vision care insurance fully paid for full-time (40-hr/week) employees.

Life insurance: Paid term life insurance policy.

Miscellaneous: Two deferred compensation plans available, long-term disability insurance, and short-term disability (SDI) insurance through the EDD.
