JOB: Director of Library, California College of the Arts, Oakland

The director will provide leadership, management, and expertise to fulfill the mandate of the CCA Libraries. The director will work in concert with the library staff, faculty, and academic and administrative leaders to ensure that the library resources are used to create the greatest benefit for the CCA community. The director is responsible for the strategic vision and planning of the libraries to ensure the library remains innovative in its provision of resources, systems, and services that best support CCA’s existing and expanding academic programs. While reporting to the CIO, the director maintains a close relationship with faculty and Academic Affairs, collaborating closely with technical and academic staff to craft and implement a shared vision for faculty development and teaching excellence. The director should serve as an advocate for the Libraries and lead discussions about redesigning the Libraries to better serve CCA as a hub for information literacy, instructional technology, faculty development, student engagement, and high impact teaching and learning practices. The director actively leads the library staff, engaging them in the process and unifying the vision and services across the campuses. The director is enthusiastic, innovative and passionate about the role of libraries in a flexible, media-rich, studio-based, hands-on art and design environment.

JOB: Director of Library and Information Services, California Academy of Sciences, San Francisco

The California Academy of Sciences seeks an innovative and dynamic Director of Library and Information Services. The Director is responsible for strategic planning and management of the Academy’s Library, including its programs, staff and assets, and reports to the Academy’s dean of science. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated record of success in: (1) securing federal and private grants for developing, preserving or digitizing library resources; (2) networking within the national and international community of academic libraries and publishers on consortia or joint purchasing arrangements for systems providing scientific content from natural science research journals; and (3) networking within a home institution on library initiatives, such as development of content management systems, database systems, intellectual property structures for images or other assets, and licensing of library assets to broaden their use and help generate funds. JOB: Director of Library, Health Sciences, San Francisco Bay Area

Summary:

Responsible for library strategic planning, administration and management of internal operations, communication and coordination with campus, faculty, staff, and other external organizations, evaluation of library programs and services, development of library information technology, budgeting and fund raising, and participation in college governance and committee structures.  Articulates a vision of the library’s future and provides leadership in the integration and use of information technologies.  Holds a faculty appointment and is the lead faculty member and advocate for information literacy.

Salary: $93,000-$102,000

Education and/or Experience:

  • MLS from ALA accredited program
  • Second Masters degree or Doctorate in Library and Information Studies, Educational Technology or a field related to the health sciences is desirable
  • Membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals is desirable
  • Eight to ten years as a professional librarian preferred
  • Five years in a position of increasing administrative responsibility, preferably as a director or supervisor of professional librarians, in an academic and/or health sciences library
