Dear BayNet Members,

It is with deep sadness that the BayNet organization and website will close down on July 31, 2024, as has been posted since April of this year. For those of you interested in a possible other library organization, we are posting this on behalf of SLA-SF. This will be their only announcement using the BayNet listserv.

Dear BayNet members,

By way of introduction, my name is Tina Kremzner-Hsing and I am the 2024 President of the Special Libraries Association (SLA) San Francisco Bay Area Community. On behalf of SLA SF Bay Area, I welcome those who are interested in joining our Community of SLA to become a member of SLA. A few of the many ways a SLA membership can enhance your career and your value include:

1. Growing your professional credentials and skills on your own time with SLA’s On-Demand Learning, free hangouts, and free round tables, conveniently available and waiting for you.
2. Creating rewarding professional relationships at local community meetings and events and discipline-specific programs and at the SLA Annual Conference.
3. Networking! Ask questions and get answers, share ideas and expertise, and build and strengthen professional relationships through SLA’s online community, SLA Connect. We have an Open Forum and over 100 Communities; regional, professional interest (ex. Academic and Education, Digital Asset Management, Military Libraries) and special interest (ex. Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Issues).
4. SLA’s 2021 Salary Survey provides you with the latest data on salaries and employment trends in the library and information profession.
5. Staying abreast of industry issues and developments through SLA’s weekly e-newsletter, Information Insights, and our social media channels
6. Taking advantage of job postings specific to your industry through access to our brand-new Career Center.
7. Developing leadership, marketing, and technical skills by taking advantage of SLA volunteer opportunities

Lastly, SLA is proud to be a part of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA). Each year, there is a discount to attend WLIC (World Library and Information Congress).

Upcoming events specific to the SF Bay Area Community include:
1. A tour of the Northern Regional Library Facility on Friday, July 26, 2024
2. A tour of the SFO Museum and Library on Sunday, October 6, 2024

If you are interested in joining SLA, we cordially invite you to the SLA SF Bay Area Community’s centennial celebration to learn more. The Centennial will take place on Friday October 18, 2024, 6:00-8:00 pm at the World Affairs Council in downtown San Francisco (312 Sutter St #200, San Francisco, CA 9410). More details to come. We are extremely grateful to BayNet for partially sponsoring this event and hope to see you there! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at tinakh@berkeley.edu.

 Warmly,
Tina
